The Internet Modern History Sourcebook is one of series of history primary sourcebooks. It is intended to serve the needs of teachers and students in college survey courses in modern European history and American history, as well as in modern Western Civilization and World Cultures. Although this part of the Internet History Sourcebooks Project began as a way to access texts that were already available on the Internet, it now contains hundreds of texts made available locally.

The history of the British empire is a British story and a world story. For the last 400 years Britain has played a key role in the world - mainly because of its empire.
In this exhibition you are going to look at how and why the empire made Britain so important. We haven't tried to study all aspects of the empire, because it was so huge and lasted so long. Instead, we have provided some information and original sources that will give you an outline understanding of the empire.

LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY: EXPLORING THE FRENCH REVOUTION provides an accessible and lively introduction to the French Revolution as well as an extraordinary archive of some of the most important documentary evidence from the Revolution, including 338 texts, 245 images, and a number of maps and songs. Lynn Hunt of UCLA and Jack Censer of George Mason University—both internationally renowned scholars of the Revolution—served as principal authors and editors.

Why did history unfold differently on different continents? Why has one culture—namely that of Western Europe—dominated the development of the modern world?
