Step One:

Choose An Animal

You will need to find specific information about your animal so poke around Animal Diversity Web, Animal Encyclopedia and other websites suggested on this guide to make sure you can get your hands on the required information for the project.

Look for These Keywords and Concepts:

animal description, distribution, habitat, lifespan, taxonomy, cladogram, ecological niche, trophic levels, symbiotic relationships, evolution, structural adaptations, body systems (respiration, circulation, reproduction, digestion, excretion, movement, response), outlook

Warning:  

  • No mammals
  • No annelids
  • No pets
  • No pests
  • No domesticated animals
  • no deep sea fishes or seahorses
  • Jellyfish must be pre-approved before submission
  • Limited numbers of flamingoes, alligators, penguins, sea turtles, hummingbirds, snakes, Elasmobranchii (sharks, skates, rays)

September 11-12: Animal Choice

  • Final Poster Presentations (oral presentation of animal info; explanation of topic interrelation; Q & A
  • Final Peer Review (peer review of other student posters/presentations)
  • Final References Page (APA format)
  • 2 Annotated APA References due to Ms. Counts
