José Julián Martí, a Cuban patriot, journalist, and poet, fought for the liberation of Cuba from Spanish rule.This larger-than-life statue by Anna Hyatt Huntington shows the moment when a resolute Martí was mortally wounded in the 1895 battle at Dos Rios. His monument is one of three bronze equestrian statues featuring great Latin American men—Martí, Simón Bolívar, and José de San Martín.
